Goose Creek Candle Wax Melt Reviews - February 2023

This is a review of 16 new Goose Creek wax melts scents from February and March 2023. Goose Creek Candle wax melts and candles can be found on their website at goosecreekcandle.com.

Goose Creek Candle has started using new one-piece clamshells with attached lids. This is definitely a benefit, because I sometimes end up putting the wrong lid on the wrong scent. Also, because the older clamshells are round, they roll around when stored and don't stay in place. The new clamshells can actually stand up on their own, which is great if you have several of them sitting on a shelf. But because of their odd width and shape, they no longer fit into regular wax melt trays, which for me is a big drawback. So in some ways the new packaging is an advantage and in some ways it's a disadvantage. Goose Creek Candle will be selling some of their wax melt scents at Walmart soon, so having a clamshell that can stand up on a shelf makes sense. They will most likely sit in special plastic clamshell sleeves made specifically for their clamshells, like the ones that Walmart has for their other wax melts.

Apple Pom Twister
Top: Red Delicious Apple, Wild Berries; Mid: Pomegranate, Soft Peony; Base: Spun Sugar
I'm getting apple with another fruit I can't identify, which I assume is pomegranate based on the scent name, although I'm not sure I detect that. Maybe also a tiny bit of a woodsy note? It's a rather nice scent, and although it's somewhat sweet, with no sour or bitter notes, it's the type of scent that I think should be sweeter. Looking at the notes, I'm not getting a floral or spun sugar note.

Cashmere Linens
Sandalwood, Vanilla, Amber, Coconut & Blooms
A lovely scent of vanilla, soft warm slightly perfumey amber, a hint of coconut, a little bit of milky sandalwood, and possibly a smidgen of lavender. It's very nice! Despite the "Linens" note in the scent name, it's not a laundry or cotton type scent. And the main note is vanilla, which is often not the case with these types of scents; vanilla is usually somewhere in the background. The vanilla in this almost gives it a foodie note. Looking at the notes, they're spot on.

Cinnamon Sugar Vanilla
Cinnamon Sugar, Vanilla Bean, Whipped Cream & Baked Pastry
This smells like a cinnamon donut, and it's quite authentic. I can even smell the donut note!

Clear Blue Sky
Bright Clementine, Warm Spring Breeze, Freesia, Peony & White Woods
A fresh, sweet, "sharp", kind of harsh scent that smells kind of like a men's body wash with hint of a warm ambery note in the background and possibly a barely detectable smidgen of a woodsy note. It's a nice scent, but the sharpness smells kind of like rubbing alcohol after it's been melting for a half hour or so. I don't smell that rubbing alcohol note on cold sniff, and it's not enough to ruin the scent when melting. Looking at the notes, I'm not getting orange (clementine).

Day At Sea
Sparkling Bergamot, Lemon, Mandarin, Salted Driftwood & Waters
A fresh, rich, salty scent with a hint of lemon and a hint of a sweet floral. I'm also getting bergamot, which gives scents a citrusy cologne note, but this scent is not a cologne scent at all, and it could be a men's body wash type scent if it were sweeter. It's very, very nice! Looking at the notes, I'm not getting mandarin (orange) at all.

Farmstand Watermelon
Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Kiwi, Apple & Waters
A very nice fake (not in a bad way) watermelon scent with a tiny bit of apple and maybe a teensy bit of a dirt note. That sounds awful, but that smidgen of dirt makes it smell like being in a watermelon patch on a summer day. It's sweet, but not overly sweet, and it's not like a candy scent or a watermelon lemonade scent (there are no lemon or sour notes in this scent). It could be the same as their Watermelon Patch scent, which was also watermelon with a dirt note, although I no longer have it to compare. The scent notes are different though (those notes were green grass, fresh melon and water flower). Looking at the notes, there's the apple.

Honeysuckle & Green Apple
Green Apple, Sweet Melon, Lily & Wild Honeysuckle
A pleasant, very sweet apple scent with a slight honeydew melon note, and a bit of a grassy floral. It's a little fake, like an apple scented room spray, but that's not a bad thing, as it's a really nice scent. Although I do get a bit of the floral, it's not a "floral" or perfumey floral, but more grassy, and I'm not getting honeysuckle at all.

Key Lime Cake Pop
Juicy Lime, Cake Batter, Vanilla Icing & Sparkling Sugar
On cold sniff, it smells like a combination of lime and vanilla buttercream, with a hint of lemongrass and super strong lime-based industrial cleaner, and a teensy bit of a perfumey note way in the background. Melted, the vanilla and perfumey notes disappear, and it's just the lime. The lime has a tiny bit of "zing", not fizzy, but not sweet and juicy either, and maybe a tiny bit tart. And unlike many lime scents, there's no coconut in this one. It's too strong and "limey" to be a foodie scent, and my "industrial cleaner" description sounds awful, but it's actually a fantastic scent!

Lemon & Leaves
Lemon, Geranium, Olive Leaves & Thyme
I didn't get this scent, but I knew it looked familiar. It's the same as their Lemon & Olive Leaf scent from April 2021. It's a savory, salty, lemony scent with a bit of bergamot that also gives it a tiny bit of clean men's cologne note, although it's not a cologney scent at all. It's very nice, and different! It's similar to Better Homes & Gardens Meyer Lemon Basil, but that scent doesn't have the bergamot note at all. It's actually much more similar to ScentSationals Cactus Garden, but maybe slightly more lemony.

Limoncello Cupcake
Vanilla Pound Cake, Lemon, Orange & Creamy Icing
A fantastic scent of bright, citrusy lemon with a soft, sweet vanilla cake note. I'm also getting a tiny bit of orange. What makes this different than just a regular lemon bakery scent is the lemon verbena note of the lemon, which makes it zestier than regular lemon, almost to the point of being a spa scent. It's a great scent on its own, and I think it would also smell really nice mixed with a sweet lavender scent.

Mineral Springs & Aloe
Cool Waterfalls, Ocean Minerals, Aloe, Apple & Melon
Herbal and fresh, with maybe a hint of light wood like sandalwood, and perhaps a smidgen of floral. It's just a little sweet, but also a bit salty, so it's not a floral or perfumey sweetness at all. I think there's also a smidgen of eucalyptus in the background, and I'm getting a teensy bit of a nasal clearing effect from up close. And maybe a barely detectable smidgen of some kind of fruit, like peach, but I'm not sure about the fruit. Maybe also a little bit of bergamot, which gives scents a cologney note, although this is not a cologne scent, but it could be a men's body wash if it were a little sweeter, and I think I'm getting a fresh lemon note way, way in the background as well. It's quite pleasant, and I really like it. Looking at the notes, there's the fruit, apple and melon, although the fruit note is so subtle that I can't tell what kind of fruit it is.

Pink Bellini
Pink Peach, Apricot, Apple, Sugar Cane & Blushed Wine
I'm getting mostly orange, with a bit of grapefruit and lemon. There's a tiny bit of "softness" in the background that could be a floral, although it's really not a sweet scent. It's quite nice. Looking at the notes, I'm way off, but I'm definitely getting the orange and grapefruit. I don't detect peach or apple at all. Maybe the wine note is what I think is grapefruit.

Sweet Pea & Vanilla
Sweet Pea, Vanilla Bean, Almond & Sugar
A lovely, soft, perfumey scent of vanilla with maybe a hint of marshmallow and/or buttercream, a warm amber note, and a hint of floral way in the background, although I'm not getting sweet pea, per se. It's very similar to the Cashmere Linens scent, but sniffing them side by side, this scent is slightly softer and sweeter (almost with a baby powder note), and that scent has a hint of coconut and smidgen of lavender.

Vanilla Birthday Cake
Fluffy Vanilla Cake, Marshmallow Cream, Vanilla Sugar & Cream Filling
On cold sniff I'm getting a bakery type scent that smells kind of like an Entenmann's vanilla or yellow cake, the waxy kind with lots of preservatives and fillers. Not that that's a bad thing, because it smells quite nice! I think there's also a smidgen of coconut and possibly a barely detectable smidgen of lemon and maybe another fruit. Although I'm not sure about the fruit. Melted, much of the sweetness disappears and it turns salty and smells a bit like popcorn with a tiny bit of a burnt note. Again, not a bad thing, but not really a vanilla birthday cake type scent.

Vanilla Fluff
Fluffy Vanilla, Marshmallows, Soft Caramel & Sugar
I'm getting a fake vanilla with a tiny bit of marshmallow note, a smidgen of cashmere or amber or something very slightly perfumey, and maybe a barely detectable smidgen of coconut. Despite the fake vanilla note, it's actually a really nice scent. Looking at the notes, I'm not getting caramel.

Watermelon Lemonade
Top: Juicy Summer Watermelon; Mid: Freshly Squeezed Lemonade; Base: Pure Cane Sugar
This scent is true to its name; it is indeed watermelon lemonade. It's more lemon than watermelon, maybe 60% / 40%, or even 65% / 35%. Like most watermelon lemonade wax melt scents I've smelled, it has a slight sour note, but it's not enough to detract from the scent. It's smells almost exactly like ScentSationals Watermelon Kiwi Lemonade, but that scent is slightly more sour.

Whipped Cream & Cashmere
Soft Cashmere, Amber, Sandalwood, Jasmine & Vanilla
A lovely, warm, sweet scent of cashmere/amber with vanilla and maybe a smidgen of musk that makes it very slightly perfumey. It's kind of similar to the Sweet Pea & Vanilla scent, and smells very close to the Cashmere Linens scent, although not exact. Sniffing it side by side with Cashmere Linens, I detect the smidgen of coconut and lavender in that scent that's not in this scent, and this scent has a smidgen of sandalwood that I don't detect in Cashmere Linens.
