Hobby Lobby Wax Melt Reviews

This is a review of Hobby Lobby DD Wax Melts that came out in July 2020. For the first time, I'm not excited about these scents, and in general the throw is mediocre. Which is usually not the case with this brand.

Bamboo & Birch
citrus, bamboo & violet
I'm not a fan of this scent. It's a bland, watery aloe, cucumbery type scent. It's not sweet or sour or savory, just bland. Although it's quite "natural", with a very green, kind of grassy note. When melted, I do detect a hint of a fresh lemony note, but not enough to make this scent interesting to me. However, I think it would be a nice mixer for spa scents like lavender, lemongrass and spearmint, or to make some floral or green scents smell more fresh or natural, or to tone down floral scents that are too sweet (vanilla is often a good mixer to tone down scents, but it will add a foodie note that you might not want added to certain types of scents). Looking at the notes, I do detect that hint of citrus, and the bamboo is the main "aloe" type note. I don't detect violet or any type of floral or sweet note.

Crushed Violet & Vanilla
violet, French lavender, iris & Tahitian vanilla
I smell lavender and vanilla, and it's a nice combination. It's not medicinal, but it's also not sweet and powdery, although it is a bit sweet. It's not the common sweet lavender and vanilla combination that has a coconut note, like Bath & Body Works Lavender Vanilla, Scentsy Lavender Vanilla and Downy Unstopables Vanilla. I really like this one!! Looking at the notes, I'm not sure if I detect other floral notes like violet and iris, although there may be a smidgen of a barely detectable floral in there somewhere.

Indigo Island
island lilies & dark amber
I really like this scent. I smell coconut first, then vanilla, then a hint of a warm ambery note, and maybe a smidgen of floral and musk (although it's not a perfumey scent at all). Looking at the notes, the "island" part of the lilies note must be the coconut.

Italian Bergamot & Sandalwood
Italian bergamot, sandalwood & rosewood
This is primarily a lime scent, with a lemon rind note and perhaps a hint of pineapple and smidgen of orange. It's sweet rather than zesty or citrusy though, with the lemony note being similar to that in Yankee Candle Sicilian Lemon. But it's not entirely limey/lemony, as it also has a smidgen of rich wood and men's cologne (although it's not a woodsy or cologney scent at all). It's an interesting combination and I like it! Looking at the scent notes, I'm not sure if I smell rose; if it's in there, it's very subtle and barely noticeable.

Moss & Black Cypress (No. 18)
red cedar, Spanish moss & water lily
I can't figure out what I'm smelling in this scent. It's smoky, but not woodsy smoky, more like a slightly peppery, slightly waxy smokiness. There's a fresh, very slightly sweet note in the background that has a tiny bit of an oceany water note. And perhaps a tiny bit of a cologne or men's body wash type note, although it's barely sweet. It's just an okay scent for me.

Sugar Rose
jasmine, sugared musk & tea rose
This is a rose scent with a sweet slightly baby powder note. But it has kind of a "burnt" note (but not smoky, and not really in a bad way) that tempers some of the sweetness. It's a nice scent.

Timber & Patchouli
bergamot, mandarin orange & patchouli
Yet another smoky scent... This one is very smoky, and unlike the other smoky scents, this has a bit of a woodsy note. It also has a smidgen of a fresh, watery note that gives it a tiny bit of sweetness, and a little bit of a men's body wash note. It also has a barely detectable smidgen of that waxy, aloe-y note that many of the other scents have, but not nearly enough to ruin the scent. It's quite nice. Looking at the notes, I don't detect any orange or citrusy notes at all. Not sure if I detect patchouli either.

Tonka & Island Vetiver (No. 37)
citrus blend of bergamot, clove, tonka & amber
A very nice fresh, slightly herbal, sweet men's body wash type scent with a hint of neroli (orange blossom), which is a scent I adore. It also has a tiny bit of smokiness. Looking at the notes, I don't detect cloves or citrus.

Tropical Patchouli
tropical pineapple, patchouli & coconut
This one is not in the video as I bought it later. This just smells like sweet pineapple to me, with just a smidgen of coconut. There may be "something" in the background that might be a little woodsy, but if I didn't know it was supposed to be there, I wouldn't notice it. Melted, however, it just smells like cheap pineapple scented air freshener. I'm not a fan.

Water Blossom
citrus blossom, hinoki cypress & blue azalea
This is a bit similar to the Bamboo & Birch scent in that it's primarily a watery aloe type scent. But this one is more cucumbery, with a zesty savory note and a hint of sourness, so I like it a bit more. It smells like cucumber salad. It's not nearly as bland as Bamboo & Birch, but I'm not sure if I want my house to smell like cucumber salad!

Zero Gravity (No. 40)
stargazer lily, primrose & amber
This one is not in the video as I bought it later. The closest classification I would give this scent is a cologne or men's body wash scent, but only barely. It also has that bland aloe note that some of their other scents have. There's also an odd note that smells like ocean water, slightly salty, but also "briny" or musty or something that doesn't smell good at all. The scent is a little sweet, but not enough. I'm not a fan of this one.
