Hobby Lobby Wax Melt Reviews

This is a review of Hobby Lobby Wax Melts from June 2019. I'm a bit underwhelmed by these scents, since the scents from last October were so incredible. Most of these smelled good, but I only really "loved" two of them.

Black Tourmaline No. 30
Black Tourmaline and Musk
This is an unusual scent. It's very smoky, but also has a bit of a cologne note and a hint of sweetness from the cologne. The smokiness is not woodsy like a campfire or fireplace, but more like a chemical or maybe some kind of rubber. Which sounds awful, but I love this scent! Tourmaline is a gemstone, which obviously has no scent, but there are some "black tourmaline" perfumes out there that have acrid, tarry, almost rubbery notes of black pepper, incense, leather, oud and patchouli. Someone said one of these perfumes smells like an ashtray at first. And all of these descriptions describe this scent perfectly! I think this is a scent that people will either love or hate (I wasn't sure if I liked it or not at first, but now I love it!)

Cake Pop
Almond Cake Batter with Blueberries and Vanilla Sugar
I smell almond and blueberries, with maybe a lemony note, and a very sour note that I think detracts from the scent. It's sweet but not overly sweet because of the sourness. It smells VERY similar to ScentSationals Pink Velvet. Smelling them side by side, Pink Velvet is actually slightly sweeter (and it's not a very sweet scent anyway), and Cake Pop is definitely more lemony, with a hint of zestiness, even though there's no lemon in the scent notes. I do smell the blueberry in Cake Pop, which I don't smell in Pink Velvet (which doesn't have a blueberry note). Other than the blueberry note, it's not very similar to ScentSationals Unicorn Cake, which is basically a blueberry muffin type scent that's much sweeter, much less sour, has no "zestiness" and has much less (if any) of the lemony note.

Cannoli Chips
Coconut milk with powdered sugar and fried dough
This really does smell like cannolis, or funnel cake, or some kind of sweet fried dough. And it smells yummy!! There are no spices like cinnamon, and it's not sickeningly sweet or rich or overly buttery. Looking at the scent notes, I don't smell coconut. Fantastic!

Feelin' Cozy
Sugared chestnuts swirled with vanilla
This is a cozy but yummy scent of rich, buttery, slightly salty chestnuts with a vanilla buttercream note. There may also be a smidgen of caramel or brown sugar. Looking at the scent notes, they're spot on.

Peppered Agave
Peppered Agave with Crisp Citrus Swirls
This proves my theory that everything smells better with pine! This smells like a combination of cucumber or aloe, and woodsy pine. It's a very unusual fresh, natural herbal scent. It's savory, not sweet, although there's a smidgen of a cologney note in the background. It's also a little bit zesty, so there may be a smidgen of lemon (the "citrus" in the scent notes?). I LOVE it!

Pumpkin Pretzel
Pumpkin with a Pretzel Twist
This smells like gingerbread with a pumpkin note. It's richer and saltier (the pretzel) than most gingerbread scents, and has a nutmeg note (the pumpkin). Yummy!

Rejuvenate No. 08
Lemon & Eucalyptus
I'm not a fan of this one. It's a fresh watery scent with a strong aloe note that smells a little bit like cucumber, a little bit of green grass... and a hint of caramel? Yep, there's some other note in there that doesn't belong. It has an odd, I don't know, "metallic" note or something. Looking at the scent notes, I don't smell lemon or eucalyptus at all.

Roasted Pumpkin
Grilled Harvest Pumpkin with Charred Firewood and Red Ginger
I'm not a fan of pumpkiny scents because they all smell like generic pumpkin pie, but this is different. I do smell the pumpkin, and it really does smell "roasted"! I smell a little bit of the nutmeg and cinnamon, but I also smell a warm smokiness, with maybe a hint of brown sugar or molasses, even though this is not an overly sweet scent. There may be a hint of ginger because I'm also getting a little bit of a gingerbread note. Looking at the scent notes, they're spot on!

Snow Coconut
Snowdrop Flowers with Amaryllis and Amber
I smell the coconut, and the floral note, but it's a little harsh with a tiny bit of a bug spray note, although not enough to detract from the scent. I think I detect a smidgen of lavender way in the background. It's a nice scent, and very similar to (but a bit sweeter than) Scentsy Lavender Vanilla, which might be a dupe of Bath & Body Works Lavender Vanilla. There are a lot of "lavender vanilla" scents out there that smell like this, with that odd harsh coconut note and only a hint of lavender.

Sooth No. 10
Amryis & Eucalyptus
A nice pleasant watery fresh air scent with a hint of a cologne note and a slightly peppery, possibly minty note (eucalyptus maybe?). It smells like an herbal men's body wash. Looking at the scent notes, there's the eucalyptus. Amryis has a slightly sweet, benzoin, rich warm balsamic woody note. I don't know if I detect that. I detect more of a bergamot note, which is often used in cologney type scents.
