Courtney's Candles & Creations Wax Melt Reviews

This is a review of wax melts by Courtney's Candles & Creations, a Missouri company that makes her own wax tarts, but also sells candles, wax melts, accessories, and other home decor products from different manufacturers. She's a one-stop source for lots of wax and candle related items!

It was a pleasure dealing with Courtney's Candles & Creations (not to be confused with other companies named Courtney's Candles). The owner was friendly, polite and professional. She's been making wax melts for many years and she definitely knows her stuff!

Courtney's Candles & Creations is one of the very few companies whose wax I've tried where the throw on all scents I tried was almost consistently excellent, and many of them are scent monsters that took over the house. The "worst" throw of the bunch was still a good thrower!

Courtney's Mixer Melts wax melts are made with paraffin wax, with extra fragrance oil added. The only negative I have is that the wax is an unusual consistency, hard but sticky, like nougat, which makes it very difficult to get out of package. I had to use a butter knife to cut the cube out. But this was definitely not a deal-breaker because the quality of the scents and throw of the wax more than makes up for it.

Courtney's Candles & Creations wax melts can be ordered from her website at http://www.courtneyscandles.com/ccmelts.html. She's also on Facebook. I will definitely be ordering from Courtney's Candles again!

Baby Powder
A favorite for a fresh clean aroma.
Well the name says it all. This is a true baby powder scent. It's fantastic!

Black Currant Vanilla
Floral notes of fresh linen, green clover, rose, tuberose, narcissus, ylang, gardenia, jasmine and palm arose combined with warm woods of cedar. This is a dupe of the Bath and Body Works scent.
Fantastic rich creamy warm sweet sophisticated perfumey scent with maybe a plum or blackberry note, but the currant tempers the fruitiness, and I do smell the vanilla. It has a little bit of a "Pink Sugar" note, but not as sweet and candyish. Interestingly, even though the scent name has "black currant" and "vanilla" in it, the scent notes on the website are completely different, and I'm pretty sure they're incorrect.

Blueberry
Just picked sweet, juicy blueberry
This doesn't smell like blueberry at all to me. It does, however, smell like concord grape. And it has a slight peanutty note, so it actually smells like a peanut butter and concord grape sandwich. I recommend renaming this scent peanut butter and grape jelly!
Brown Sugar & Fig
Ripe fig fruit and green fig leaf notes linger in the aroma of caramelized sugar and coconut milk and are accented with orchid, violet and sheer jasmine in a background of sandalwood and soft musk.
This is not really a foodie scent, despite the name. It's a warm slightly sweet caramely type scent with a classy fig note that tempers some of the sweetness. It has a smidgen of a perfumey note. Looking at the scent notes, yes I think I do detect a smidgen of coconut! Very nice scent.

Cashmere Bergamot
Warm woody amber with sandalwood with bergamot, patchouli, jasmine, lavender & citrus
This smells like a lovely expensive perfume with a little bit of a baby powder note. There may be a smidgen of milky vanilla way in the background. Beautiful scent!

Charleston
Soothing fragrance, a woodsy and spicy mix, including nutmeg, coriander, patchouli and cedar wood plus notes of honey and vetiver. This is a dupe of Lampe Berger brand Charleston home fragrance.
This is a unique and interesting scent. I'm not sure if I like it or not. It's a very smoky yet very sweet scent. It's not a woodsy type smoke, but more of a cigarette type smoke scent. However, it's also sweet, slightly soapy, perfumey and floral. But that smokiness it the predominant note. Looking at the scent notes, I don't know where that super smoky note is coming from. I don't smell honey, although maybe that's the sweetness. I think I do smell a bit of nutmeg.

Eucalyptus Spearmint
Aromatic, herbal blend of cooling eucalyptus with spearmint
This smells like ScentSationals Zen with a perfumey note, but without the laundry note. Like Zen, spearmint is the main note, but it's a soft spearmint that's not even all that minty, and no sinus clearing effect either. And also like Zen, I don't smell eucalyptus at all.

Heavenly Spruce
Vigorous spruce with spicy and woody notes.
A nice warm spruce scent, not a biting pine scent. I detect a little eucalyptus as well.

Her Majesty
Beautiful florals, patchouli, vanilla & woods with musky tones
A fantastic perfumey scent with a tiny bit of a foodie note. Although it's perfumey, it's not overly sweet. I also smell a bit of vanilla, and possibly a hint of patchouli. This scent smells a bit like Tyler Mixer Melts High Maintenance, but it's not exactly the same. High Maintenance has a richer, more patchouli note and possibly a smidgen of black pepper, and Her Majesty has more vanilla and has much better throw (High Maintenance throw is 2 to 3).

Lady in Red
A sweet red currant with notes of tart green apple, pear, rose and a touch of pine. This is a dupe of Lady in Red perfume.
I've never smelled Lady in Red perfume, so I don't know if this smells like it or not. But it's a pleasant rose scent with some other floral notes I think. It doesn't smell like perfume though, more like soap, which is a good thing, and it's not overly sweet. Looking at the scent notes, the currant is probably tempering the sweetness and providing that slight soapy note. I don't specifically smell apple, pear, or pine.

Lavender Blueberry
Delightful blend of lavender and fresh ripe blueberries
I would never think that lavender and blueberry would smell good together, but I LOVE this scent! It smells like eucalyptus with a slight blueberry note, because it's a medicinal lavender rather than a sweet powdery lavender.

Lavender Lemon
Fields of classic French lavender with delicate lemon and lime
A clean spa type scent with lavender and lemongrass. The lavender is a medicinal lavender with a eucalyptus note, and the lemongrass has a bit more of a sour lemon note rather than the citronella note that some lemongrass or lemon verbena type scents have (an intense lemon, probably because of the lime note). It's not a sweet scent at all, and has a little bit of a soapy note. It's very nice!

Lavender Vanilla
Classic French lavender with fresh vanilla bean mixed with warm notes of caramel and coconut milk
I smell both the lavender and the vanilla in this scent. Most lavender and vanilla scents have a warm amber or cashmere or perfumey note (like Goose Creek Candle Lavender Vanilla or AmbiEscents Lavender Vanilla), or an odd coconut note (like Bath & Body Works Lavender Vanilla and Yankee Lavender Vanilla). But this is a balanced combination of herbal lavender with a bit of a medicinal note (rather than a sweet powdery lavender) and sweet vanilla buttercream. It's a great combination and it smells fantastic.

Lemon Flower
Fresh and delicate lemon and lime with notes of orange blossom and vetiver.
This is a nice sweet and slightly sour lemon scent that smells like a soapy lemon scented cleaner with a little bit of a lime note. I don't smell any "flower" notes. Looking at the scent notes, the "vetiver" is probably the sour lime note. I don't smell orange blossom at all (which is a sweet neroli type floral).

Lovin' Grace
This Heaven sent formula is full-bodied fruits, the aroma of sparkling tea, and patchouli. This fragrance is named in honor of our local charity LovinGrace, a home for young women who are homeless or have aged out of foster care and have nowhere to go. 10% every product sold in this fragrance will be donated back to this organization!
This smells like Angel perfume. I love it! It's not overly sweet, and I detect amber for warmth, tea, maybe a hint of apricot, and possibly a smidgen of patchouli. Oh wait, this smells a lot like Bridgewater Candle Sweet Grace, which I described the same way. Smelling them side by side, I actually like Lovin' Grace a bit more because it's richer, warmer, and has a little bit more of the patchouli note and a little bit less of the tea note.

Mahogany Teakwood
Delightful blend of mahogany, teakwood & oak with a touch of floral lavender
A pleasant men's cologne scent with a hint of rich, warm mahogany and sandalwood. I think I detect a smidgen of lavender. Yep, there it is in the scent notes. It's not overly sweet or cologney.

Opium
Just like the famous perfume. An exciting, rich, and spicy perfume fragrance.
I've never smelled Opium perfume before. This is a nice rich classy women's perfume scent with an oriental spice note. It's not overly sweet and it's not a candy-type girly perfume.

Orange and Evergreen
I smell the rich sprucey note of the evergreen, with the warm sweet orange blossom, neroli note (rather than a citrusy orange). The two notes work very well together, and make this scent smell fantastic. If you didn't know what you were smelling, you would think this was a sweet, rich, kind of perfumey evergreen scent.

Orange Blossom
Lovely orange blossoms scented with soft notes of jasmine and honey.
I love orange blossom fragrances. It's kind of a neroli type scent, but with this one I can actually smell a little bit of orange although it's not a citrusy smell because of the warm rich flowery neroli note. Very nice scent! Looking at the scent notes, I think I do detect a smidgen of honey.

Orange Vanilla
Juicy orange blended with fresh vanilla and sugar
This is not an orange creamsicle scent as I expected based on the name. It's a warm, creamy, cashmere or ambery perfumey scent with vanilla buttercream and a hint of orange. It smells like a nice skin cream rather than a foodie scent, but it's not overly sweet. It's different, and I like it.

Originality
Herbaceous top notes of fresh eucalyptus folding into a mellow rosy floral accord surrounded by a powerful warm spicy cinnamon leaf, woody pine, and patchouli.
This is an exact dupe of that fantastic Claire Burke "Original" scent. Claire Burke has their own wax melts in their "Original" scent, and they're $5 each on their website. Courtney's "Originality" is only $2.50 (currently on sale for $1.95).

I can't even begin to describe how good this scent is, and how happy I am that I found it in an affordable melt. There's no other scent out there that even comes close to what this smells like. It's fresh and herbal and smells a little like shaving cream or Noxzema, but then I smell rose and a warm woodsy incense note, and it even smells slightly Coppertone like suntan oil, but it's not really sweet. It's a chameleon scent!

Patchouli Pure
Floral and amber notes blended with rich patchouli and woody cedar with touches of clove, vanilla and lemon resting on a base of sweet musk.
A very nice sweet patchouli scent that smells like it might have some other incense spices in it. It's sweet and a little perfumey, and not as raw and woodsy as other patchouli scents I've smelled. Looking at the scent notes, well there's the floral and musk notes I'm detecting. I don't smell lemon though. I really like this scent.

Prima Donna
Fruits & florals with amber & chocolate
A warm expensive amber perfume type scent, but it's not overly sweet. It's very rich, with a hint of a foodie note. There may be a smidgen of vanilla or even cocoa in the background, although the cocoa could be patchouli because sometimes patchouli does have a bit of a chocolate note. This is a fantastic scent... and I just realized it smells a lot like Tyler Mixer Melts Diva. And Diva does indeed have both amber and chocolate in it! I like Diva a bit more because it's slightly sweeter and richer.

Red Currant
A sweet red currant with notes of tart green apple, pear & rose
Currant scents are fig-like soapy scents with a tiny bit of tartness, a hint of a perfumey note, and a smidgen of a berry note with hardly any sweetness. It's a very sophisticated scent that, when mixed with other scents, gives them a classy note. Currant is one of my favorite scents, and this one is no exception. This scent, however, is a little sweeter and slightly more fruity than most currant scents I've smelled, and with a smidgen of a perfumey note. So this might be one of my favorite currant scented wax melts!

Roses
A lovely rose scent that smells like a combination of a real authentic rose, and rose scented soap. It's not overly sweet, and actually has a smidgen of bitterness that makes it smell authentic. Very nice! After 2 or 3 hours it ended up smelling more like rose scented soap than a real rose, but that's okay, because I still love it either way. And the scent lasted for 12 straight hours!

Sandalwood Bergamot
Woody sandalwood with bergamot, patchouli, jasmine, lavender and citrus
A sweet scent with a little bit of a woodsy note. I can't figure out the other notes though, or where the sweetness is coming from. It's not really perfumey, nor is it a floral, nor is it a foodie scent. I think I smell a tiny bit of lavender and possibly vanilla. Bergamot often gives scents a cologney note, but this scent is not cologney. It's a pleasant scent, and not overly sweet. All of the Sandalwood blends smell very similar, with just a few different notes. Looking at the scent notes, I think I do detect a hint of patchouli, but not the jasmine really, and no citrus.

Sandalwood Falls
A warm ambery perfumey scent with a hint of milky sandalwood, although it's not a woodsy scent either. And it's not overly sweet, more like a nice skin cream.

Secret Garden
Fruity notes of pineapple, peach, cherry, cassis and watermelon are combined with fresh floral marine and notes of orchids, violets, jasmine, gardenia, rose & magnolia, warmed with sweet creamy vanilla, caramel and clove.
This is a sweet floral with a warm note and maybe a smidgen of raspberry, as it has a slight Pink Sugar note, but not that sweet or candyish. It's a little similar to Black Currant Vanilla, but with a floral note.

Spa Massage Thai
Fresh notes of delicate flower petals with a soft spicy touch. Very similar to the Millefiori Milano fragrance.
I like this one! It smells like eucalyptus with a hint of lemon, and maybe a smidgen of lemongrass (although I don't detect the slightly citronella note that lemongrass tends to have). There may also be a hint of lime, which for some reason gives this a little bit of a Pine-Sol note. Looking at the notes, I'm not sure if they're for the right scent. This doesn't have any floral or perfumey notes at all.

Strawberry Vanilla
A wonderfully stimulating sweet fruit fragrance with just a hint of vanilla
A fun, super sweet strawberry candy scent with a raspberry note and a hint of perfume. It's not authentic strawberry, but that's okay. I really like it!

Sunflower
Sweet, sun-drenched florals intermingled with sparkling fresh air and hints of orchard fruits
I don't smell anything on cold sniff other than slightly bitter wax. When melted, I'm not sure how to classify it. It has notes of warm amber, wood, herbal notes, and a hint of floral, but it's only a little bit sweet. It's a pleasant scent.

Warm Vanilla Sugar
Floral bouquets of heliotrope and sheer jasmine mingle in rich warm vanilla sugar and coconut notes nestled over a bed of sandalwood and white musk
A lovely scent of warm cashmere, a floral note, and milky vanilla. I think I also detect a smidgen of coconut. It smells like an expensive skin cream rather than a perfume scent, since it's not overly sweet. Looking at the notes, they're spot on.

Wine & Roses
This smells almost exactly like the Roses scent. The differences are barely noticeable. I think this scent has a slightly soapier note and a barely detectable smidgen of fruit. Or it might indeed be the same scent

Winterwoods
Sensual fragrance blending delightful spices with the subtle fragrance of a wintry forest
I can't figure out exactly what I'm smelling, but it's fantastic. I smell very sweet exotic spices like frankincense or myrrh, with incensey notes of maybe patchouli and possibly a hint of Nag Champa, and a hint of raw wood. But it also has a tiny bit of a soapy note that almost makes it smell a little like a bubble bath.
