AmbiEscents Wax Melt Reviews - December 2019

Read reviews of AmbiEscents Wax Melts from Bed Bath & Beyond (December 2019). Although these came out in December, they are not holiday scents. And they smell fantastic! Although most of them are dupes of older ScentSationals scents.

Cake Macaron
Creme brulee blended with a strawberry coulis, raspberry, vanilla and milk chocolate
When I saw "macaron" I thought it might be the same scent as their old Strawberry Macaroon scent, but it's a totally different scent. This smells like a sweet milk chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting. Looking at the notes, there is zero strawberry or raspberry or any fruity notes in this scent at all. Oh wait, this is the same scent as ScentSationals Cake Batter Ice Cream! The wax is even the same color, a light slightly greenish blue. But the notes are different (CBIC notes are "Classic cake batter accord enriched with decadent, sweet buttercream while vanilla sugar swirls throughout"). I knew I'd smelled it before. It's a great scent, but not sure why they came out with two scents (this and Kitchen Spice) that are so similar at the same time.

Flamingo Shore
Tropical blend of Hawaiian pikake, hibiscus and pineapple flower with notes of mango, guava and Polynesian papaya sweetened with coconut blossom and emerald palm
This is the same scent as ScentSationals Flamingo (and same notes). It's a sour tropical fruit scent with a zesty sour note. It's been used for many other tropical scents, and with good reason, because it smells great! The notes that some people have said they detect in this scent include grapefruit, pineapple, melon, and peach. I don't really detect any of those, although maybe a hint of the grapefruit. It smells to me like a combination of satsuma (a small orange/ mandarin type citrus fruit with a pungent, sour, fruity lemon note) and a tropical fruit like small yellow guava (which can have a bit of a pungent bay leaf type note, unlike pink guavas which are sweeter). I got it! It's a dupe of ScentSationals Mango Luau (from 2017), Better Homes & Gardens Wild Island Fruit (from 2014 I think), AmbiEscents Passion Fruit Love, and AmbiEscents Brazilian Sunset. The notes for Mango Luau were "papaya sweetened with sugar, mango, guava and tropical passionfruit with hints of vanilla", although I'm not sure how accurate that is, since this scent is not sweet. I love it though!

Girls' Night Out
Alluring blend of sweet orange, apples, and tonka topped off with jasmine, pink berry, and coconut milk
This is the same scent (and same notes) as the popular ScentSationals Girlfriend Night, as well as AmbiEscents Boss Lady and Ador Yass Queen from Target (Ador is made by ScentSationals). It's a super sweet girly perfume scent that smells like pink sugar (a very sweet girly scent that smells a bit like cotton candy, with lily of the valley, vanilla, musk, and faint raspberry notes) but with more musk and maybe a slight blackberry note. I've heard that it's very similar to a Juicy Couture perfume. It's VERY sweet, almost nauseatingly so, but I like girly perfume scents so I love this one! Looking at the notes, I don't smell orange per se.

Happy Camper
White birch, sandalwood and ambered pine, with smoked hickory, cade and sheer musk
When I saw that the notes for Happy Camper included birch and smoked hickory, I was hopeful that it was a dupe for one of my favorite scents ever, ScentSationals Smoked Birch from Meijer (also AmbiEscents Aspen Birch)... and sure enough, it is!! If you like smoke scents, you will ADORE this scent. It's not a smoky pine or a smoky woodsy scent; it's mesquite, like a super intense "Liquid Smoke" scent with a rich, salty, almost bacony note. The scent lasted a full 24 hours! Absolutely AMAZING scent, one of my top 10 favorites. Now that I've found this scent again, I'm going to hoard it, and I'm excited to blend it with other scents like pine, cologne, mint, and even chocolate!

Herbaceous
Basil, rosemary with citrus-spiked sage, aromatic fennel, green parsley and thyme
When I saw the notes for Herbaceous I thought this would be just another savory zesty salad type scent, but it's so much more. And I think this is going to be a VERY popular scent. It smells like fresh greens from the garden. I do smell basil and maybe a bit of parsley, but no rosemary or fennel as those are savory notes and this isn't really a savory scent. It also has a little bit of a sweet garden mint note that gives it a spa quality, and it's that slightly sweet note that keeps this from being too savory. Fantastic!! I figured out where I've smelled this before... It's a dupe for one of the two scents in the old ScentSationals Herb Garden Duo from 2014 (Basil Leaf + Fresh Rosemary, but I don't remember which one).

Kitchen Spice
Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and pepper, sweetened with a touch of vanilla
Despite the notes, this is NOT a spicy scent. I believe it's the same as an old ScentSationals scent for Meijer also called Kitchen Spice. There is ZERO cinnamon, clove, nutmeg or pepper in this scent. Which is just fine, because it smells SOOOO good. On cold sniff it smells like yummy vanilla cake with a little bit of cocoa. But when melted, it becomes rich and decadent. Melted, it smells like warm, buttery vanilla cookies with cocoa swirled in that just came out of the oven. It's not a chocolate cake scent, it's not a dark bitter chocolate, it's not even a light milk chocolate, and it's not even overly chocolatey. What sets it apart from other similar scents is that it's not overly sweet. It smells like real cookies made with cocoa rather than chocolate, like something you would your house to smell like if you're trying to sell it or if you're having visitors you want to impress. I don't think this scent is a dupe for anything else I've smelled, although it smells almost exactly like the Cake Macaron scent, although that scent is a little sweeter and not as rich or "buttery". It's also very similar to the ScentSationals scent for H.E.B. called Dulces de Leche (same as ScentSationals Conchas), but that scent is even slightly less sweet, more "flat", and not as rich.

Lemonade Pops
Bright Italian lemon and bergamot artfully blended with pure sugar cane and a whisper of vanilla
When I first smelled Lemonade Pops, I thought it was the same scent as ScentSationals Strawberry Lemonade Fusion, but it's not. The Fusion scent smells great, but this one takes it to a whole new level. It's a sweet, citrusy lip puckering lemonade scent with a strawberry or raspberry note. It is absolutely incredible and hoard worthy! I can't stop sniffing it!! I'm wondering if it's the same as the old ScentSationals Blackberry Lemonade, which I no longer have. Oh wait, it might be the same as Better Homes & Gardens Chilled Raspberry Lemonade, as I described it the same way, and it's exactly the same shade of pink. But that one had weak throw, and the notes for were "Raspberry, blackberry, peach, and pomegranate infused with a refreshing combination of lemon, vanilla, verbena, and sugar crystals". On the other hand, the notes for this scent don't show any fruit or berry at all, even though it's definitely in there, and it shows bergamot which would give this a cologney note that it definitely does not have. So I do think this is the same as Chilled Raspberry Lemonade, but I'm glad it's a strong thrower!

Life's a Beach
Tropical blend of kelp mingled with salty ocean air, sun-warmed sands and seashells, glinting with tropical fruit notes of melon, guava, pineapple and passion fruit
This is the same scent as ScentSationals Beach Please (and same notes). It smells like a rich perfume with hints of watermelon, honeydew, maybe pineapple, and possibly a smidgen of coconut and a little vanilla. It's sweet and fresh and a little fruity, and absolutely fantastic! Someone said this reminds them of ScentSationals Coral Shores, and after sniffing them side by side, I definitely agree they're very similar!

Love Story
Fragrant blend of mahogany wood and amber spiced with peppercorn join earthy patchouli and vanilla citrus blossom and musk-infused sandalwood
This is the same scent as ScentSationals Flirtatious.

Raspberry Smoothie
Sugared raspberry and strawberry gleam with rich blackberry, pure vanilla sugar and freshly whipped vanilla bean cream
Like Kitchen Spice, this is another scent that doesn't smell like the scent name or notes. This is a caramel apple scent!! I thought it was the same as an old ScentSationals scent for Meijer called Salted Caramel Apple, but it's not, although it's very similar. It's definitely a rich, salty caramel, with apple, but what differentiates it from Salted Caramel Apple is a hint of a berry note which I think is indeed raspberry. It's like they used SCA as the base scent and added a little raspberry to it. Melted, I do smell a bit more of the raspberry, but the rich salted caramel makes it smell nothing like a smoothie! It's a great scent and I really like it, but I was looking forward to an actual raspberry scent.

Sea's The Day
Sparkling ozonics and sea salt drifting over jasmine, cyclamen and lily touched with hints of peach and warm musk-infused wood
This is the same scent as ScentSationals Boardwalk (and same notes). It's soapy and a little fresh with a little bit of a sweet watery note and a perfumey note and maybe a hint of baby powder. There might possibly be a barely detectable smidgen of coconut way in the background, but I'm not sure. When melted though, the perfumey note is much more subtle and it takes on more of a soapy note that's not overly sweet. It's quite pleasant and I like it.
